Sleeper turns one

Image
Hey people, So a year ago Sleeper was released! If you're interested, I dropped some of the extra photography from the sessions. There's no demos or b-sides or anything, I only recorded everything I put on the record. Check it out below and if you'd like to download the album on me, you can find the BandCamp codes for it here . Brady

The Weeknd - Dawn FM (FIRST IMPRESSIONS)

Image
Pictured: alternate cover art, taken from the physical editions of the album. “You are now listening to 103.5 Dawn FM. You’ve been in the dark for way too long. It’s time to walk into the light and accept your fate with open arms. Scared? Don’t worry. We’ll be there to hold your hand and guide you through this painless transition. But what’s the rush? Just relax and enjoy another hour of commercial ‘free yourself’ music on 103.5 Dawn FM. Tune in.” The Weeknd is one of the biggest artists on the planet right now, if not THE biggest artist out there. His previous album, 2020's After Hours , was a mammoth success that smashed record after record, charted endlessly, and sold thousands of copies. You've been living under a rock if you haven't heard  Blinding Lights or Save Your Tears over the past two years. Culminating in a glitzy, glamorous Super Bowl LV Half Time set, designed after the imagery and motifs of After Hours' Vegas settings. So how do you follow up THE bigg...

Year in review, happenings, such and such

Image
pictured: me, a week ago 2021 was an... eventful year. Certainly more eventful than 2020, but equally, if not more scarring. With wrapping up my sophomore year of college and entering my junior year, there were plenty of ups, downs, and opportunities. Didn't love it, didn't hate it though! Some sure-fire highlights were getting to interview Ilan Rubin , completing the Capstone Challenge with Braven, and managing to pull a lot of really cool things together behind the scenes I can't quite talk about, music-wise. Speaking of music, some amazing albums came out this year. My list of favorites is below. I wanted to thank you folks for being good to me, I'm thankful I've made as many new friends this year as I have. It's been a really tough one emotionally and to have good people to turn to is a privilege. I'm glad I managed to get back to my job and glad I'm able to do what I do. A big struggle has been keeping motivated in just... all aspects of my life. I ...

Favorite records for when the weather gets cold!

Image
Alright. It's officially colder out. Trees look dead, you wanna go out less. You need some comfort music to ease that seasonal depression. Brady's got you covered. It's pretty simple. I'm gonna gush about some albums. I'll link each one too. Some records I'll have more to say about than others. There's no specific order. Here goes nothing! Alessandro Cortini - Avanti I wanted to bring this one up first since I figured it was the most appropriate for this sort of weather. It's fuzzy, warm synths layered over delay and reverb. The record was made as a soundtrack to Cortini's home videos, which had no audio to them whatsoever when he discovered the original tapes. The record is a stunning piece of music and it was my gateway to discovering tape recorders as instruments, and my gateway to his solo work. Can't recommend it enough. Fennesz - Black Sea Fennesz is one of those artists I wish I found out about sooner. Black Sea is dark. It's murky and...

Reflecting on the Halloween weekend

Image
So my busiest weekend of the year is winding down. It felt so good to be doing more proper, LOUD live shows.  Last night at Liar's Club was fucking excellent. It was a super tight gig and we absolutely nailed it in typical Creeps fashion. I remembered why we don't do the paper suits much though, man. I was so dehydrated by the end of the show, even just wearing the suits for three songs I feel like I exhausted SO much more energy just because it was so fucking hot on stage. I was boiling. However, we ripped through the set and I was so glad we were first. It was an easy night! I loved the acoustic gig Vanity Contest did in August but man, being at an actual venue was a breath of fresh air. I felt so much more in my element. The visuals, the whole vibe we were going for was a lot more along the lines of what we're about. We debuted some new material from [REDACTED], and even played Eyes Open for the first time (glad we didn't at the acoustic gig). People were super rece...

THOUGHTS ON: MASTODON - HUSHED AND GRIM

Image
Sinner Get Ready is tied. Fuck. I didn't think I'd be as into this album as I was. Believe me, I was wary of the collaborations and it being a double album, I know they'd always talked about not being sure of doing one. I went in excited, but not completely over the moon. I thought I was prepared, and I still got my fucking face melted and my heart broken. I don't say this lightly, but I think Mastodon have finally... truly surpassed what's often been considered their very best work. If you could say that. If anything, they raised their own bar enormously high. I didn't know exactly how possible that was considering the vast, dense musicality of "the big four" and 2017's Emperor of Sand .  Yes, I'm serious. This is an absolute triumph. Some may argue it's bloated, too "mid-tempo," it's not "sludgy" enough as a certain melon has griped on their more recent material. You can think that. It's ok. I feel otherwise....

Sleepless Night Blog, Vol. 2: Facebook and Instagram are back. No shocks. Here's another nostalgia dump.

Image
Does anybody find it funny that Facebook and Instagram were down the day after a pretty damning series of information came out about how they're TOTALLY aware of how much hate they foster and promote? Me too. Fuck Zuckerbot. Break Facebook up. YEAH, I CAN SAY THAT HERE. YOU CAN'T GET TO ME HERE IF NOBODY CARES ABOUT BLOGGER ANYMORE YOU ROBOT BASTARD! Anyways, being downtown again more frequently has been really nice. Especially with the fall weather officially kicked in. I really missed that morning ritual of just, waking up super early and getting to be around such a busy environment as it's all just starting to wake up. There's kind of a zen vibe to it. It's nice. I just didn't appreciate as much as I should have initially. I mean, I did but... not like I do now. There's something kind of calming knowing somewhere so busy can be so quiet and empty sometimes too. To kind of build on that, being downtown again I'm reminded of the numerous treks in diffe...
